Marking a new stage in Lang Lang's artistic development, it is the project of a lifetime.
Alongside a studio recording is a contrasting performance, a single take from a recital in Leipzig's iconic St Thomas Church, where Bach worked and is now buried.
“I’ve been studying this work for more than 20 years – performing and recording it has been a lifelong dream.” So says Lang Lang of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, one of the greatest masterpieces of keyboard literature and one of those musical Everests that a pianist seeks to climb. “This is the most creative and multidimensional work in the keyboard repertoire, it is also deeply emotional and goes straight to the heart,” he adds. “One can delve deeper and deeper into its different dimensions and always discover something new.”
